The new City Council called a plebiscite for February 22/03, to ask whether voters support the City bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Recalling our exploits of 1999 and 2002, we re-assembled the "Dream Team" to run the poll at Queen Elizabeth School. We were inundated with voters: although the forecast was for about 2000 voters, we got 4740! As a result there were lengthy lineups, and we had to call for extra ballots and another ballot box. But the Dream Team was up to the challenge, working hard, being inventive, and greeting the voters with a smile. |

As always there were challenges - such as the hundreds of University residents who insisted they be permitted to vote, even though they live outside the City and are not eligible. Interestingly, Gordon Campbell (Premier of the Province) showed up to vote, accompanied by Jack Poole (Chair and CEO of the Bid Corporation) and over a dozen press with their cameras rolling. We made the Vancouver Sun, upper picture. And reportedly Kazuya was seen on BCTV, accepting the Premier's ballot at the voting machine. Once again our results matched the City-wide vote precisely - 64% in favour.
Thanks to the Team members for a smooth operation and excellent service to the voters. Original members: |

November 16th 2002, we ran an election poll for the City. Located at Queen Elizabeth School, it was one of the busier polls in the City with 1271 voters, a 53% election-day turnout. Included among our voters were Larry Campbell (the Mayoral candidate, and eventual winner), and Gordon Campbell (Premier of the Province). Because of this there was a lot of media interest in our poll; as a result, Angie got her photo in the Vancouver Sun next day. Also, Vivian was prominent on the TV news. Coincidentally Ian was taped for BCTV news, while picking up the voting machine. |
